Help with New Google Sites (as opposed to "classic Google Sites"):
On this website I give some instructions and pointers for using Google sites, sometimes called New Google Sites (as opposed to an older system now -- as of 2024 -- referred to as Classic Google Sites.
The good news is that Google Sites is free and allows you to build decent websites. It is also quite easy to use, once you play around a bit with the various features.
Google Sites is mostly intuitive once you've played around with some 10-20 essential features. The basic way to create content is
"Pages" (to create or clone webpages),
"Insert" (to insert elements into a new webpage), and
"Themes" (to use a theme or create and edit your own, kinda like a CSS commands in HTML).
The default with "Insert" is that you drag inserted elements to their rough location (i.e., which are above which, which are side-by-side, some rough positioning of "buttons", etc.), and Google Sites makes the exact placement. I'm not sure to what extend these defaults can be overridden (as of October 2024), but I'm not sure you'd want to override these defaults...
Documentation for using Google sites seems a bit minimal. At present, Google has some documentation; Steegle is a Google Cloud Partner (whatever that means...) that has some good documentation as well.
Here is where I would start, if I have never used Google sites for a while, or my memory seems particularly shot... Here is where I would review my knowledge after a year or so with my memory generally doing OK...
[As you may have guessed, I'm writing this page as much for myself as for others...]
